Scope

By bringing together a variety of people and organizations that have existing awareness activities on Information Security, we consolidate existing materials and expertise, learn from the other's experiences and efforts and establish a mutual collaboration. A cooperation between the various parties can be coordinated by the Awareness Working Group, but can also exist between the respective participants. The working group will :

  • establish a periodical (quarterly) meeting for companies, organizations and government bodies to present their activities in relation to awareness and become a platform to raise questions for support and experiences to other members
  • act as a single point of contact for all parties that wish to be involved in awareness creation
  • establish a mutual goal, in the lines of the objectives of the BISSI think thank and coordinate this into all of the single activities
  • develop base materials that can be used immediately, re-used and re-engineered for specific occasions, or that can serve as a basis for further custom development
  • develop a single recognisable brand that can be re-used in order to become a label of quality and of recognition throughout the awareness activities
  • collect and disseminate lists and descriptions of awareness activities, develop a joint schedule of events
  • support the government on awareness activities
  • create and maintain relations to political parties, government officials and public authorities in order to ensure a wide support of people on these activities
  • develop a list of best practices, a list of participants and their intended participation (active / passive)
  • work with Communication Agencies and Psycho Social experts, in order to be able reach out to a general awareness
  • participate actively to the A Safer Internet Day, and similar activities

Methods and Deliverables

The Working Group on Awareness will convene on a regular basis (quarterly meetings), and offer a public floor for participants to present their activities on Awareness Creation. During these regular meetings questions can be asked to all participants, activities can be shared, support can be requested, … Discussions can start during the sessions, or can be generated by email-request to the group. They can generate a call for further discussion or brain storms; or can generate specific actions requested to the participants. Deliverables will be :

  • an online collection of awareness materials (collaterals, posters, ...)
  • development of a specific brand
  • a continuously list of target audiences and segments
  • a continuously updated list of organizations trying to reach those segments
  • a discussion forum
  • ...

Participation is on a voluntary basis, but each agreed deliverable should be taken forward by the active participants. Active participants will be published, and acting as Material Members of the WG. Passive participants will be able to access only a selected set of materials and activities. The meetings will be chaired by the BISSI working group, who will coordinate the work of potential sub-groups.

Sponsors and Partners

The working group can have a variety of partners, both public, private, profitable and not-for-profit and on an international level. In order to fund some of the developments and requirements, the Working Group will accept sponsorship on all levels, if it doesn't interfere with the objectives of a specific action. All participants will be able to act as Sponsors and can bring along additional Partners.
